AP US History Notes from Wed. October 4th.

A quick review of the notes taken today:
- The Common Sense pamphlet by Thomas Paine is influentical and inspires people to declare independence.
- The First Emancipation is created by the nothern states to decrease slavery.
-Slaves can now sue their masters for freedom
-They can fight in the Revolutionary war in exchange for freedom.
- A Virginia law is passed allowing slave masters to grant their slaves freedom. The law is also passed in Maryland.
-The Atlantic slave trade is banned, but reopened in South Carolina and Georgia.
-Shade's Rebellion errupts in Massechusetts. Shade is eventually driven of the state, but the incident characterizes the USA as being unable to control its people.
-The Annapolis Meeting is wildly unsuccessful, but the delgates agree to meet a year later in Philadelphia to reform the Articles of Confederation.
-Virginia poropeses a two house government system with most of the power going to the larger states. This is combated with the New Jersey plan.
-After a whole lot of stress, The Great Compromise (aka the Conneticut Compromise) is reached.
-The USA gains a two house system and a Constitution.
-There is a stuggle to gain the nine states needed to ratify the Constitution.
-Creates the Federalists and Anti Federalists.
-Five states automatically apporve it, and eventually it gains all nine votes.
An important term to remember is Republican Wife/Mother. It refers to native born Americans spreading throughout their families the joys of democracy.
Two successful laws are passed.
1. The Land Ordinance of 1785.
2. The Northwest Ordinance of 1787.
