My Response to the Article

I thought this was so cool how all those Indians used to live right around here. I wonder why we've never really heard about this before? I would think that even though they are still trying to get recognized as a tribe, there would be a lot more public interest in this story. I'm sure people would like to keep track of how much progress they have made in getting recognized as a tribe. I also find it interesting that Pocohontas' mother was from the Patawomeck tribe. I never knew that.

I second the motion to watch Pocohontas in class Friday!

Articles are posted in the newspaper occasionally about the different tribles of Stafford. The road markers put up about the places of historical events are all around Stafford. But the reason why tribes aren't so popular within Stafford is because the people aren's really interested in that kind of thing to an extent as to support the tribe popualtion. People would rather spend a day shopping than driving around Stafford County looking at the historical places.

My mom would totally agree with you on what is so impotant about Stafford County. She's always saying why is it so important about this place. We had just moved from Europe and it was like seen it done it when we came back. Then I read these articles that are descibing the importance of the Patawomecks and what not, so it is pretty cool because there were no Indian tribes in Europe.

I agree with Courtney. There are many historical places in Stafford that are named after historic people. But do you ever stop and think who those people are and of what importance they are to Stafford County? No, not really. People would rather go out shopping or go out of Stafford County anywhere than to, lets say, research those names and get to know more about the historic people that once occupied Stafford County. People just don't take the time to notice all the historical events and places and are shocked when they hear that the area in which they live is a big part of history.

I mean, this area ("Fredericksburg", "Stafford") are both full of history all the way to the colonial times to now. It's cool that there could be much more most of us done even know about.

The article states important facts about Stafford which no one up till now knew. This historal place doesn't have the importance of its ancestral tribes which are the roots of Stafford today in relation to culture. And it is true that people don't really recognize this important historical events and would rather see up to themselves therefore miss out on the major parts of history.
