October 3rd, 4th period
Today in class we covered pages 225-240 in the text book. Here are the notes I took from Mr. Gottschalk's lecture.
-Loyalists
~were loyal to Britain, were against the acts forced on colonists but did not want war
~1 out of 6 colonists were loyalists
~19000 fight for the British during the war.
~it took a while for the British to use them
~many went to Canada
-Native Americans
~some side with British
~at first tried to remain neutral during the war
~latter fought
~Indians saw the colonists as a bigger threat then the British
~The last main battle
~Yorktown
~Washington cornered Cornwallis, he surrendered
~French Navy held off British Navy, not able to get reinforcements
-Peace treaty of Paris
~Indian lands given to colonists
~New Englanders can fish off of New Foundland
~ Colonists gain Mississippi except for New Orleans
~confiscated loyalists lands
~Pre-war debts still good
~British acknowledge the colonists as independent
