Patawomeck
Although I find it interesting that such a history is found here in Stafford county, I am upset that ancestors that live here are just now revealing their connections. I think members should be proud of their ancestry and should have revealed it a long time ago even if they tried to keep quiet. I understand that they now might be revealing such details due to the attention that the tribe is getting from the 400th anniversary of Jamestown coming up. Even if they hadn't helped out with the survival of Jamestown, they should have accepted the fact that they were related to a Native American tribe which existed right here in Stafford. And if they didn't realize it, their ancestors have played an important role in the growth of our county from many years ago.

Yeah it is weird how members of the Patawomeck tribe are now telling the public that a large amount of American history resides in their ancestory. They probably didn't reveal the information because either they weren't sure whether or not their ancestors, the Patawomecks, once resided in Stafford and wanted to gather more information from more sources or that they were just embarrassed to reveal their connections before. The members probably decided to tell the public of their connections right now because of the upcoming 400th anniversary, thinking it would be the best way without being embarrassed.
That is a very good response. I think you have good points and the response was well written.
I agree that it is not right that the Patawomecks are ashamed of thier ancestry, they should be proud of thier ancestry. But, society has not allowed them to do so because we have put bad connotations to thier name, which is unfair. But the 400th anniversary was a great time for them to tell their connections
