6th Period Notes for September 21st
Today in class we discussed any questions over last night's reading assignment. The subject of the War of Jenkin's Ear was brought up and deemed the best name for a war. We proceeded by answering the questions on schoolnotes.
*The French are expanding westward, meet up with the Indians inhabiting nearby areas. Realize that French tolerance of the Indians is gradually declining. The Indians actually begin to trade with the British, have better deals.
*Spain decides they want to be a power in America. Move west to Texas. Also invite slaves to come to Florida for their freedom if they can escape and are willing to be baptized as Catholics. Large group of slaves make attempt to escape (Stono Rebellion- biggest slave rebellion in the 13 colonies). About 25 settlers die, about 60 slaves die and none make it to Florida.
*King George's War- England v. Spain and France. Colonists get involved for the first time, go to French territory and devastate it.
*Governor seems to be more influential, considers patronage rather than just decreeing rules. Elected Legislative Assemblies are very popular. All colonies have a Governor and Elected Assembly, have to work closely together now.
Don’t forget to read and the Data information sheet is due tomorrow!
