Movie Notes from Friday, 5th Period

My all time fav...MOVIE TIME! haha here's what Friday's movie was about: -westward expansion caused: discrimination towards Indians, Indians wanted to stop whites from taking their land, buffallo hunting to the brink of extinction, and Grant wanting to put the Indians on reservations. -Crazy Horse led brutal attacks on whites. -In 1887, the Dawes Act was issued which tried to break up tribal land. -money made from that was supposed to go towards Indian education. -this education forbade tribal religion and native language; called the Carlisle Model. -In 1890, 300 Soix fled their land and the US Army found and killed them at Wounded Knee. -In 1867, William Seward wanted to buy Alaska from Russia for 7 million dollars. -Hawaii was plentiful in sugar and pineapple. -The US Navy was built up and became powerful. -In 1890, Mahan argued that nations gained power through control of the sea. -Spain was mean to Cuba/out them into concentration camps. -Yellow Journalism arises which makes Americans want to help the Cuban Revolutionaries. -Congress annexes Hawaii and Samoa. -Anti Imperialists oppose the Filipino American War. -in 1902, the war ends and the US triestoimprove the lives of Filipinos by establishing a civilized government. -Platt Amendment. -US controls Cuban economy. -Roosevelt wanteda canal to show how strong the US is, big navy. -1904; Roosevelt Corallary states that the US could intervene in politics and economics. -Taft's Dollar Diplomacy. -Many railroads wereput in host countries. -Wilson opposed the Dollar Diplomacy.
